Musicians; The Illuminators

Musicians of late seem to only delve into expanding their own bounds as individuals. Within them lies a greater responsibility, for in the days of old poetry was the form of written communication that illuminated the happenings of life. Now, musicians shoulder this burden. By all means, expand one’s creative mind, but do so in the process of providing the portal of knowledge and wisdom for all. This veering off the course I advocate might be a direct repercussion of the industry becoming so much about business and quantified success. I credit the industry for the masses’ attraction to sounds of the shallow and useless popular tones of present. I am sure you can develop the names of whom I speak of.

I firmly hold that if this is not remedied that the days of true value to be found the human condition and existence will slowly fade into the darkness of our cold lives. About 200 years ago, Walt Whitman was already discussing the fading of interpersonal communication. The folks of the town evolved into the crowd of the city; civilization evolved in industrialization; thus, we are yielded with our post-modern civilization. Folks are identifiable, whereas the crowd is but a cloud.

Be the light musicians. You are the very few who are encouraged to use the creativity of life, nature, and experience to brighten the understanding of many. We, the rest of us, are put into our societal boxes and told to comply. Some of us hold on to our tried and true ways of expression, others have taken the bait and fallen. Do not conform for conformity’s sake. Do not be consistent in self and thought for consistency’s sake. Know you, know you now, for tomorrow may be too late. Perhaps with a little contemporary artistic light we, as a world at odds, can find our light again.
